Bears Sweep Falcons

For the third consecutive game the Cowlitz Black Bears roughed up the Falcons beating them 11-1 on Sunday at Elks Stadium, sweeping the series.

The Bears got to Falcons’ starter Jeremy Newton early and often, scoring five times in the first three innings. Newton who suffers his first loss of the summer gave up four earned runs, seven hits, while striking out five.

The lone run for the Falcons came in the eighth inning as Trey Kamachi (pictured) scored Scotland Church, his third RBI of the season.

Kevin Biro collected two more hits and has a team leading six RBIs. Church who doubled on Sunday night leads the team with 12 hits.

The Falcons pitching staff continues to search for answers. Five pitchers on Sunday gave up 18 hits and seven walks. The staff now leads the league in walks (54), earned runs (52) and hits (97).

Tuesday night the Falcons will look to snap their five game skid as they head back to Walla Walla to begin a six game road trip against the Sweets and Corvallis Knights. They’ll return home to host the new expanded Yakima Pippins on June 24th.
