Kelowna Falcons

Falcons Host Pippins

It’s been 13 days since the Falcons played a home game as they welcome in the first place Yakima Valley Pippins (22-17) starting tonight for a three game weekend series.

It’s the second meeting of the season between these two clubs after the Pippins swept the Falcons at the end of June at Elks Stadium.  The Pippins outscored the Falcons 24-5 and outhit them 35-21.

Nick Minteer led the offense collecting five hits including a double, while the Pippins led by Vince  Fernandez, who clubbed two homeruns and recorded six RBIs.

However in recent weeks the Falcons have been out playing the Pippins.  The Falcons are 5-5 in their last 10 games, while the visitors are 4-6.

The Falcons offense has started to heat up scoring 37 runs in the last five games.  The big question this weekend, is can the offense stay red hot against the second best pitching staff in the West Coast League?

The Pippins staff has been stingy with the second lowest ERA at 3.25, allowing just 128 runs and striking out 272 hitters.

This series will be a great challenge for the Falcons pitching staff as well.  Their combined ERA is 5.75, allowing 210 runs on 370 hits while striking out 269 batters.   They will face a Pippin offense that is hitting .267, scoring 226 times with 355 hits.

Friday night with be the 40th game of the season for both clubs.  Aaron Mason will get the start for the Falcons and will strive for his first win of the summer.  He faced the Pippins on June 26 and was solid in relief, throwing 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and struck out five.

The gates open at 5:30pm on Friday afternoon, with the first pitch at 6:35pm.

Probable starters:

Friday (6:35pm) – Aaron Mason (0-0) vs.  Eli Morgan (5-0)

Saturday (6:35pm) – Scotland Church (0-1) vs. Andrew Woods (3-3)

Sunday (6:05pm) – Austin Lambright (0-2) vs. Brandon Williams (5-2)
