Falcons Finish Season

It was a disappointing finish to a disappointing season as the Falcons could not overcome a nine run first inning losing their season finale 11-6 to Walla Walla.

The Sweets jumped on Falcons starter Brandon Lambright scoring nine times on eight hits, chasing him from the game after just 0.2 of an inning.  14 men came to the plate in the first inning.

Three relievers did shut down the Sweets as they scored just two runs after the first inning.  Jeremy Newton allowed one earned and one unearned run in the sixth inning, finishing with 5.1 innings, striking out four.  Michael McCall threw two innings of shutout ball, while Brett Solano threw a perfect ninth inning striking out two of the three batters he faced.

The Falcons scored runs in three consecutive innings after trailing by nine runs.  In the second inning Will Fox was handed a bases load walk as Brandon Graham scored.

In the Falcons third inning Ryan Degner led off with a triple to continue his hot hitting.  Three pitches later Lucas Denney knocked him in with a single to right field.

Then in the fourth the Falcons cut the lead to four with another pair of runs.  Both Degner and Denney tallied RBI singles

After the Sweets scored their two runs in the sixth inning, the Falcons collected their final run of the season.  Anthony Gosline scored on a double steal.

The Falcons finished with 11 hits.  Degner and Kory Matthews each had three hits, while Denney had a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs.  Emilio Alcantar also had two hits.

With the loss, the Falcons finish the 2014 season 15-39.   Brandon Grimsley wins the Falcons batting crown with a .296 average (minimum of 100 at bats).  Scotland Church led the club with 47 hits and 21 RBIs.  Josh Croft won the homerun title with three.

Prior to the game, the Falcons named their Players and Pitcher of the Year awards as selected by the coaches and presented by Creative Trophies and Gifts on Springfield.

Sam Murphy was selected as Pitcher of the Year, while Colton Waltner was named the Player of the Year.

The Falcons organization would like to thank the fans and the corporate partners for supporting them in 2014.  Without this support, the West Coast League would not survive in the Okanagan.  Planning for the 2015 season has already begun.
