Kelowna Falcons

Players of the Year

Prior to Sunday’s season finale, the Falcons awarded their annual Pitcher and Player of the Year awards presented by Creative Trophies and Gifts as selected by the coaching staff.

The Pitcher of the Year is left hander Sam Murphy.  The junior-to-be  at the University of Nebraska-Omaha finished 1-1 with a 3.34 ERA, collecting 34 strikeouts in 32.1 innings and 10 appearances.

Primarily used out of the bullpen for the first half of the season, Murphy recorded his lone win on July 15 in Klamath Falls with a 9-2 victory as he fanned seven.  His largest strikeout total was eight on July 23 against the Wenatchee Applesox.

Murphy not only developed into a quality starter this summer, but was great off the field and in the dugout as well.

Murphy’s battery mate catcher Colton Waltner, is named the Player of the Year.   The sophomore-to-be at the University of San Diego was a mainstay behind the dish all season.  He played in 31 games, recording a .277 average with 26 hits, four doubles, a homerun and nine RBIs.  His lone homer came in his final game against Walla Walla on Saturday night.

Waltner seemed to hit well against the Sweets, collecting two-three hit nights.

Both players receive a complimentary plaque courtesy of Creative Trophies and Gifts and their names will be added to the large plaques hanging in the Falcons office and be attached to names like Kyle Parson, Andrew Firth and Brandon Marris.

Congratulations Colton and Sam.
