Murphy Is Back

The Kelowna Falcons are pleased to announce their 2014 Pitcher of the Year Sam Murphy has committed to return to the club this summer.

Last year, Murphy was a bright spot on a pitching staff that struggled.  Murphy finished the season 1-1 with 3.34 ERA, striking out 34 in 32.1 innings and 10 appearances.  He was named the Falcons Pitcher of the Year for his performance on and off the field.

The lefty is in his junior season with the University of Nebraska-Omaha and has been a starter this spring in the very competitive Summit League.

“We’re excited that Sam has decided to return, despite our struggles last season,” says General Manger Mark Nonis.  It shows that Sam is a quality person and a heck of a competitor.  He should be one of our starters this summer and we will rely on him as a returning player to show the first year players what baseball in Kelowna is all about.”

The Falcons open the season June 5th in Victoria, before their 15th annual FREE home opener on Tuesday June 9th presented by TELUS and Comcast with the Yakima Pippins in town.
