Falcons Take Pair

The Kelowna Falcons took both halves of a double-header on Sunday against Yakima Valley, winning 6-5 and 7-4, and moving into 1st place in the WCL East.

In Game 1, the Falcons would break a 0-0 tie in the 3rd by scoring once in the frame, as Hunter Villanueva grounded into a double play with the bases loaded.

The Pippins responded with a run of their own in the 3rd, and another in the 5th, but the Falcons scored twice in the 4th and 6th, and once in the 5th to open up a 6-2 lead.

Kyle Plantier and Lane Lacrone picked up RBI’s, while Villanueva had a pair in the 6th.

Things got hairy in the bottom of the 6th when pinch-hitter JR Davis went yard for a 3-run homer, making it 6-5.

Dalton Blackwell shut the door in the 7th and picked up his 2nd save of the year. Nat Hamby got his first win.

Kelowna got off to a great start in Game 2, scoring 5 times in the 2nd inning off Andrew Bernstein. This was after the Falcons failed to score in the 1st inning with the bases loaded.

Grant Meylan had an RBI single, Lane Lacrone had a 2-RBI single, and Villanueva drove in another. A Sac Fly from Justin Flores would make it 5-0.

The Pippins made it 5-4 in the 5th, after scoring twice in the 4th and again in the 5th off of Brady Miller, who finished with his 2nd win of the season, going 5 innings.

Alex Webb picked up the save, working the 6th and the 7th. JJ Muno gave the Falcons insurance with a 2-RBI double in the 7th.

Kelowna picked up the season series by a 5-4 margin with the 2 victories. They have won 4 straight series for the 1st time since June 2012.

The Falcons play in Kitsap Monday – Wednesday, all games start at 6:35.
