Pitching Duel 2
- Updated: July 23, 2015
In the 2nd pitching duel in as many nights, it would be a 9th inning rally from the Walla Walla Sweets that lead to their 3-2 walkoff win over the Kelowna Falcons at Borleske Stadium.
Kelowna got on the board in the 2nd when a balk got Brandon Oliver to 2nd base following a lead off single. Kyle Plantier would cash in the 1st run of the ball game with an RBI single up the middle.
The Falcons would make it 2-0 in the 8th inning as Matt Hearn singled up the middle to score Plantier.
Things got crazy on the next pitch after a pitching change, as Grant Meylan hit a liner to center with Dyllin Mucha laying out and missing the ball. It would be a triple for Meylan that scored Hearn.
However, the Sweets appealed that Hearn missed 3rd base, which the 3-man umpire crew ruled that he did miss it to nullify the run.
The Sweets were kept at bay by Lamont throughout the ball game, as he gave up just 2 hits over 8 innings, striking out 6.
Walla Walla would load the bases in the 9th inning with nobody out against Dalton Blackwell, and it would Kyle Dozier who lined a pitch into centerfield which got past Grant Meylan and cleared the bases for the 3-2 Sweets victory.
Kelowna heads home for a 3-game set with the league leading Bend Elks starting Friday at 6:35 in Kelowna. It’s $5 Friday so come out and get a burger and a pop for just $5.
