Kelowna Falcons

Taylor Made

It was a Taylor Made night at the ballpark, as Curtis Taylor of the Falcons out-dueled Micheal Taylor of the Wenatchee AppleSox with a dominant 2-hit, complete game shutout in a 1-0 victory Saturday at Elks Stadium.

Falcons pitcher Taylor, from UBC, struck out 8 in the complete game effort, which saw him sit down 16 AppleSox in a row at one point.

16 was a common number on the night, as Kelowna hit 16 singles, but stranded 12 runners on base.

The lone run came in the 2nd inning when Grant Meylan’s hustle beat out an infield single with 2 outs to score Joey Crunkilton from 3rd base.

Micheal Taylor was good for the AppleSox as well, in the sense that he kept getting out of jams, allowing 14 hits over 6 innings.

The complete game was the first for the Falcons this season, as Taylor’s complete game was the 3rd shutout of the season. The team record is 6 set in 2012.

Kelowna will now have 2 days off as 5 members of the ball club attend the All-Star game in Bellingham, WA. Hunter Villanueva will represent the Falcons in the Homerun Derby, while Max Carter, Brandon Oliver, Jayse Bannister, and Justin Flores will play in the game Monday before meeting the team in Walla Walla on Tuesday.

The 3-game set with the Sweets will run Tuesday – Thursday at 7:05 at Borleske Stadium, before the Falcons return home to take on the league-leading Bend Elks in a 3-game set at Elks Stadium Friday, Saturday and Sunday July 24-26. This is a series you do not want to miss between division-leading teams.
