Taylor Named POW

Right-hander Curtis Taylor of tossed a complete game shutout this past Saturday at Elks Stadium to earn a 1-0 win over the Wenatchee AppleSox and WCL Player of the Week honors for July 13-19.

Taylor was masterful only allowing 2 hits while walking none and striking out 8. With the victory, he improved his record to 3-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.03. The right-hander from Port Coquitlam, has made 8 appearances and 5 starts, and struck out 30 over 35.1 innings pitched this summer.

This past spring, Taylor starred at UBC as the Thunderbirds closer as he made 24 appearances, logged 53 innings, registered 12 saves, struck out 51, walked 13 and went 4-2 with a 1.02 ERA to earn honorable mention NAIA All-America honors.

This past week saw several outstanding performances including a big week by Taylor’s Falcons’ teammate Hunter Villanueva of Fresno Pacific, a WCL All-Star, who went 7-for-14 with 7 runs scored, a .632 on base percentage, 3 home runs and 6 RBIs for the East Division-leading Kelowna Falcons (24-12).
