Falcons Drop Gm 1

The Kelowna Falcons red-hot bats were cooled off by Bellingham Bells pitching in a 2-1 loss on Tuesday night in Game 1 of the WCL best-of-three first round.

The Bells would have a runner thrown out at the plate to end each of the 1st and 2nd innings, but Bellingham would pick up a run as well in the 2nd. Justin Flores and Grant Meylan had the outfield assists for Kelowna as the defense came to play early.

Kelowna got a run on the board in the 6th inning without picking up a hit. Grant Meylan stole a bag after getting hit by a pitch and scored on a Justin Flores ground out to tie the ballgame.

Justin Calomeni was strong for the Bells on the mound, giving up just 1 hit over 7 innings.

Falcons starter Brady Miller was effective and got the help of his defense, as he scattered 4 hits and gave up just 1 run through 6.

Jayse Bannister worked the 7th inning, as the Bells took a 2-1 lead on a Aaron Stroosma single  after Patrick McGrath had moved around to 2nd on a sacrifice following a leadoff walk.

In the 9th, the Falcons would go down 1, 2, 3 as Riley Storedahl completed the save. Storedahl threw 2 innings, recording 2 strikeouts.

The Falcons finished with just 1 hit.

The Falcons will head home to Elks Stadium for Game 2 on Wednesday Night. First pitch is 6:35, gates open at 5 pm.
