Kelowna Falcons

A “Sweet” Roady

The Falcons will be hit the open road for their first away games of the season starting on Tuesday night. They will be making the journey down to Walla Walla, Washington to do battle with the Sweets, who call Borleske Stadium home.

The Falcons have played three games so far this season and currently sits with a record of 2-1. They lost their home and season opener to their longtime rivals the Bellingham Bells by a score of 5-2. But in each of the next two games, the Falcons showed their grit and tenacity, as they rallied back in the bottom of the ninth in order to produce a pair of walk-off wins.

Short stop Lane Lacrone, one of four returning Falcons, was the hero on Saturday night, with outfielder Daniel Priwin and catcher Brendt Citta occupying the role in the series finale on Sunday.

Blake McKinney, the pitcher out of Mount Hood Community College, was extremely clutch as well and came in to get some quality outs and keep Sunday’s game within reach.  He’s also credited with the win, which is his second of the season. Making the feat even more impressive is the fact that he wasn’t even supposed to pitch that night.

Falcons manager Bryan Donohue was very impressed with the effort and heart displayed by his team, especially during the game on Sunday. He said, “You can already tell, they’re tough. We’re a scrappy team. That would have been a really easy game to roll over and die, but we just said no, we’re going to go out and get this one somehow.”

The Sweets have also been very impressive early on. They sit undefeated at 3-0 and utilized a combination of excellent hitting and superb defence to sweep their series against the Victoria Harbourcats.

The Falcons will want to keep a close eye on Nick Nyquist, an infielder out of Gonzaga. He already has 4 RBI’s early in the season, and will surely be looking to test the Falcons defense through the series.

The Falcons will play three games against the Sweets in the series. They’ll play Tuesday through Thursday, with the first pitch of each being thrown at 7:05 pm. They will then return home for three games against the Victoria Harbourcats on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It is sure to be a battle between two great teams. Expect all three games to be tightly contested and highly entertaining affairs.
