Falcons Avoid Sweep, Win 9-2

The Kelowna Falcons got back to their winning ways and avoided the sweep by defeating the Yakima Valley Pippins by a score of 9-2. It was a fantastic burst of offensive from the birds, who piled on 12 hits throughout the contest.

The Falcons got multiple hits from a few different players. Mt. Hood’s own Bowen Ogata, the starting catcher on the night, led the way with three hits, two runs and an RBI. Brad Antchak, Daniel Priwin and Max Carter also had multi hits games. Priwin was especially productive at the plate, adding a run and three RBI’s in four at bats. Lane Lacrone, the second baseman also added a pair of RBI’s. His 14 lead the team this season.

The Falcons also made some excellent defensive plays, with Chandler Robertson’s diving catch in the bottom of the ninth being an obvious highlight.

Jake Simmons made a beauty of a start for the Falcons and pushed his record to 5-1 this summer. It was his last start with the Falcons and he made it count, going the full nine innings and giving up four hits and two runs, with only one being earned.

The righty out of Walla Walla Community College also walked one and added a pair of strikeouts.

With the win, the Falcons push their record to 11-10. They head to Bellingham to play the Bells for three games with their playoff destiny hanging in the balance. It’s as a big a series as the Falcons have played this summer.

The Falcons will take on the Bells and return home to Elks Stadium to finish off the year against the Walla Walla Sweets, a team they swept early on in the season.
