Pippins Take Game One

The Kelowna Falcons first trip to Yakima Valley didn’t go as planned. The Pippins, led by their ace Zach Draper, took game one by an 8-3 margin. The Falcons, who are now 10-9 in the second half of the season, were out-hit the entire night and couldn’t string together enough offense to make a difference.

With a one game-winning streak on the line, the Falcons came flying out of the gate with second baseman Lane Lacrone crossing home to put the Falcons up 1-0. That would be the only scoring the birds would see until the ninth inning, when the game was already out of reach.

Cameron Sterne would pinch hit and cork an RBI double that would score Jesse Moore. Sterne, the pinch hitter out of Seattle, would then round the bases himself and score the third run for the Falcons.

It was a tough game for the birds, as Zach Draper was masterful on the mound for the Pippins. He’s now 8-0 and continues his stellar summer.

Colby Nealy, the big righty out of Washington State, was tagged with the loss for Kelowna. The Falcons will be back at it tomorrow against the Pippins for game number two of three. Tanner Knapp, the incoming Seattle freshman, will be on the hill tomorrow. He’ll try and improve on his 1-3 record and get the Falcons back on track.

The team will then travel to Bellingham for a showdown with the Bells, before heading home for the final series of the regular season against the Walla Walla Sweets.

With only eight games remaining on the regular season schedule, the Falcons will need to pull together and get back to their winning ways if they hope to make the postseason.
