Kelowna Falcons

Two More Arms

A pair of Canadian pitchers have signed with the Falcons for the upcoming season and will be relied upon to pitch a number of solid innings.  Manager Bryan Donohue has signed both Niall Windeler and Brandon Marklund.

Windeler (pictured) from the UBC Thunderbirds program has made 13 appearances thus far and 11 of those were starts.  In his 13 appearances the Toronto native is 4-4 with a 2.94 ERA and 57 strikeouts.   He’s also thrown a complete game.

This season with the Thunderbirds the southpaw throws both a four and two seam fastball, has two breaking pitches a curve and slider and a change-up to that is his “go-to pitch.”  His fastball has touched 87mph this season.

Windeler cheers for the New York Yankees after watching Derek Jeter pay as a young boy.    Both his mom and dad are hard workers which have rubbed onto the 6’4, 205 pounder.

Righthander Brandon Marklund (North Vancouver) will also join the Falcons via Bryan College in Washington State.   Marklund this season has made 18 appearances, has collected a 5-5 record, a 5.54 ERA, but has 55 punch outs.

The senior-to-be throws a four and two seam fastball, a slider, change-up and “spike curve.”  He can run the heater up to 90-93mph and can strikeout hitters with an outstanding slider.

Marklund is not only good on the bump, but in the classroom as well.  He has been honoured the last couple of seasons with an Academic All-Conference award, majoring in politics and government.

Both Canadian pitchers will be in Kelowna as the season opens next week (June 2nd) at Elks Stadium with the FREE home opener against the Port Angeles Lefties presented by TELUS.
