Kelowna Falcons

Roady Wrapped Up

It was a road trip that almost never ended on Sunday night when the Falcons fell in Bend 11-5 to the Elks in a game that took just over four hours to play.

The Elks offence jumped on the Falcons early scoring four times in the first inning against starter James Brooks.    He would last just two innings allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out one.  Lefty Andrew Alvarez wouldn’t fare much better giving up two runs on four hits over the course of two innings, but did strikeout four.

Offensively the Falcons struggled against Elks starter James Acuna who scattered six hits over six innings allowing two runs while recording the victory.

One of the bright spots was Alex McGarry, knocking in a pair of runs on three hits and scored a run in four trips to the plate.   Jimmy Cubillos also drove in two, while both Josh Glenn and Matt Bottcher each had two hits.

Following the marathon the Falcons immediately boarded the bus to make the 10 hour ride home to prepare for a three game series with the Cowlitz Black Bears beginning on Monday.

On the six game road trip through Bellingham and Bend, the Falcons won three times and sit at 12-9, one game back of the Bells (13-8) for first place in the North Division.

Monday night, left hander Niall Windeler (3-1) will take the ball at Elks Stadium looking to become the second West Coast League pitcher to reach four wins this season.   Trevor Conn (0-0) will counter for the Bears.  The first pitch is set for 6:35pm and the first 150 fans through the game will release a limited edition autographed team baseball.
