Elks Defeat Falcons

The Kelowna Falcons were defeated by a score of 8-3 in game one of the series against the Bend Elks. Both teams came into the contest riding three-game losing streaks.

For Kelowna, the story of the game was the second inning. Bend was able to hit around Falcons starting pitcher Sam Menegat and tagged the Falcons for five runs. The Elks didn’t look back after that and would add three more in the sixth to really put the game out of reach.

Bryan Donohue, the Falcons head coach, gave his perspective on the game. He said, “I thought the whole story was a matter of four or five hits. They had timely hits and we just couldn’t get one. That’s just the way it is. We need to do a better job of not allowing that five-spot. We have to learn from that. As soon as we see a big inning like that, we need to find a way to draw a line in the sand. We did end up getting some hits but it was too little too late when we were down by eight.”

The Falcons also introduced three new players to the lineup. Trent Tinglestad, Ian Turner and Carson Dwyre. The latter two are pitchers. Donohue gave some insight into how all three performed in their debut. He said, “I was pleased with the guys. There was no backdown from the pitchers. I thought they did a great job of coming out and competing. They’re going to be guys that can help us down the road. Tinglestad is going to get some at-bats and when he does, he’s going to be very productive for us in our order.”

Donohue is optimistic that the Falcons will return to their winning ways before the playoffs. “We’re tired of being on the wrong end of the scoreboard. The team knows that we need to get things rolling as we get closer and closer to the end. I’m excited to see this team turn the corner and get that momentum. I’m a firm believer that as soon as it happens, we’re going to have that mentality that won’t allow teams to come into our park and beat us.”

Game two goes Sunday night at 6:05.
