Kelowna Falcons

Win Streak To Five

The Kelowna Falcons earned their 5th win in a row and a series victory over the Port Angeles Lefties with a season high 12 runs and big performances from Trent Tinglestad and Isaac Olson in a 12-6 victory on Wednesday night at Elks Stadium.

Tinglestad went 4-for-5 collecting four RBI’s while Olson took over with two outs in the 3rd inning on the mound and shut the door, going 5.1 innings allowing just three hits and no runs while earning the win on the mound as the Falcons improved to 12-10 on the season and won their fifth game in a row.

The Lefties were first to get on the scoreboard with the first four batters of the game reaching base and taking a 2-0 lead on Falcons starter Travis Martizia before adding more runs in the 2nd inning and taking a 4-0 lead through an inning and a half before the Falcons offence came alive.

The Falcons loaded the bases before newcomer Ezra Samperi picked up his first hit as a Falcon with a two-run double to put the Falcons on the board with Davis Todosichuk collecting an RBI on a sacrifice fly and Tylor Nixon rounding out the inning of scoring with an RBI single to get the game tied at 4-4.

A two-run home run off the bat Baxter Halligan gave the Lefties a lead once again at 6-4 in the 3rd inning before Tinglestad answered with a two-run shot of his own in the bottom of the frame with a two-run blast to right field to tie the game once again.

After getting behind in the count, the Falcons leader in home runs stuck to his approach, “I was trying to hit something hard and kind sit on the pitch that he threw,” said Tinglestad, “He got ahead of me in the count and I shortened up my swing and tried to hit the ball hard and it ended up going out.”

Sending nine batters to the plate in the 4th inning, Kelowna took their first lead of the game on an RBI single from Matt Voelzke followed by an RBI double from Drew Williams that pushed the Falcons advantage to 8-6. Tinglestad continued his big night with his third hit of the ballgame which was a two-run single to increase the lead to 10-6.

“Whether things are going good or going bad, you just need to stick to your approach and trust yourself and tonight that worked for me.” said Falcons outfielder Tinglestad

Isaac Olson kept the lead in tact with an outstanding relief appearance, allowing just three hits over 5.1 innings pitched while striking out three batters and not walking any. Todosichuk brought in his second RBI of the game on a bases-loaded walk in the 6th inning before Samperi drove home his third run of the night on an RBI double in the 8th to secure a 12-6 victory.

“We had some guys with some really big nights,” commented Falcons Head Coach Bryan Donohue, “Tinglestad with a massive night at the plate with four hits and Samperi with three RBI’s in his debut, it’s kind of what we’ve been seeing from new players that they show up and get the job done.”

Andrew Alvarez came on for his first appearance of the season and finished the game in the 9th with Olson picking up his first victory of the season. Reliever Thomas Ruwe suffered the loss for the Lefties, allowing four earned runs in just 0.1 innings pitched on the night.

The Falcons (12-10) will aim for their second straight series sweep as they host the Lefties (10-13) on Thursday in the series finale. It’s Firefighters Night at Elks Stadium as there will be plenty of family fun to be had. Bouncy castles will be on hand while postgame fireworks will illuminate the night sky after the ballgame. Tickets are available on the Falcons website or at the door ahead of the scheduled 6:35 PM first pitch.
