‘Tingled’ To Sweep

The Kelowna Falcons earned back-to-back sweeps as they outlasted the Port Angeles Lefties by a 7-6 score for extend their winning streak to six games on Firefighter’s Night at Elks Stadium on Thursday night.

Trent Tinglestad had a big night again with another four RBI’s including a big three-run home run in the 4th inning as the Falcons improved their record to 12-9 on the season and finished their six-game home stand at a perfect 6-0.

For the second straight night, it was the Lefties that found the scoreboard first as Drew Minter sent a two-run homer over the right field fence off of Kelowna starter James Brooks for a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning,

Brooks settled into a nice groove and the Falcon offence went to work in the 4th inning, sending nine batters to the plate with Tinglestad’s three-run shot highlighting the frame, crushing a ball over the wall in right field for his 4th home run of the season and gave the Falcons their first lead of the game. Jake Fischer added to the lead with an RBI single to get Kelowna ahead by a 4-2 score after three innings.

The Lefties drew closer, scoring a run in the 5th inning and tying the game up in the 6th inning on an RBI triple from Rykker Tom before taking the lead back in the 7th on a pair of Falcons errors on a steal attempt that put Port Angeles ahead by a 5-4 score after six and half innings of play.

Kelowna wasted no time in getting the game back to even again as Taylor Wright continued his hot stretch of play with an RBI single to drive Matt Voelzke in from second base to tie the game before Tinglestad came through in the clutch once again with an RBI single up the middle to give the Falcons a 6-5 lead.

Drew Williams added to the lead in the 8th inning with a bloop single into left field that was misplayed by Isaac Wersland and fell to the ground to allow Steffen Torgersen to come home and plate what would eventually be the winning run.

The Lefties did get a run in the 9th inning to make things interesting but Cal Hehnke shut the door with three punch outs in the frame to secure the win for the Falcons and collect his second save of the season.

Wyatt Hummel earned the win for Kelowna after going two strong innings of relief while Matthew Dunaway suffered the loss while pitching 0.1 IP and giving up two runs. The Falcons (12-9) head out on the road for six games beginning with a three-game series against the Victoria HarbourCats (10-11) at Royal Athletic Park beginning on Friday.
