“Knighted” In Corvallis

The Kelowna Falcons suffered their second straight sweep away from home as they fell by a 6-4 score to the Corvallis Knights on Thursday night at Goss Stadium.

Home runs from Austin Feist and Cody Stevens powered the Knights to the sweep while it was another terrific starting pitching battle between Trevor Brigden and Cameron Haskell that ended in the way of a Corvallis victory.

The Falcons opened the scoring in the game for the third straight contest in the way of a two-out RBI single from lead-off hitter Matt Voelzke. He ripped a ball to left field for his 21st RBI of the season and put the Falcons up by a 1-0 score.

Trevor Brigden had been rolling along through three solid innings before the Knights picked up their first bit of momentum in the game in the 4th inning on a lead off walk followed by a long home run from Austin Feist to give Corvallis a 2-1 lead.

Brigden and Haskell both settled into a bit of a groove, with Haskell sitting down eight straight Falcons at one point before his offence gave him a large amount of run support in the 7th inning.

Cole Hamilton brought in a run on an RBI bunt before Chad Stevens hammered a three-run home run to left field to extend the Knights lead to 6-1 after seven innings of play.

As they have done over the course of the season, the Falcons battled to work their way back in the game. Garret Kelly lined his first home run over the wall in left field for a three-run shot to cut the deficit to 6-4 heading into the bottom of the 8th.

Cal Hehnke sat the Knights down in order in the 8th before Abbott Haffar retired the Falcons in order in the 9th inning to earn the save and a sweep for Corvallis. Haskell earner the win with his 6.2 IP allowing just one run which was unearned and nine strikeouts. Brigden was saddled with the loss despite a very strong outing of 6 innings allowing three runs and amassing nine strikeouts of his own.

The Falcons (23-19/9-7) return home for the weekend and take on the Corvallis Knights (27-16/11-5) for a two-game set at Elks Stadium beginning on Saturday night with a 6:35 PM first pitch. Tickets can be purchased on the Falcons website or are available at the door ahead of the start of the ballgame.
