Kelowna Falcons

Bell Rung

BELLINGHAM, WA. – The Kelowna Falcons fell for the first time on the young West Coast League season, dropping a 6-2 decision to the Bellingham Bells on Wednesday night at Joe Martin Field.

The Bells used a four-run 5th inning and a multi-RBI night off the bats of Mason Morenco and Dylan Morgan lifted Bellingham to their first victory of the new West Coast League season.

The game started on a similar note as it did on Tuesday after both pitchers came through with solid starting efforts. Blake Tritch made his first start for the Falcons, surrendering a run in the opening inning on an RBI groundout courtesy of Mason Morenco but would be all to get through for a few innings.

The Falcons left runners on the corners in their first inning at bat and Brock Wrolstad settled in after that, tossing three innings of scoreless ball before giving way to Will Armbruester, who dealt a pair of strong innings in relief.

After four innings of low scoring baseball, the Bells broke the game open in the 5th as they brought across four runs to take a commanding lead on the game. 7 batters came to the plate with Dylan Morgan driving in a run courtesy of an RBI single. Jordan Vujovich brought in one with a fielder’s choice before the ball got away from catcher Tanner Barnes and allowed another run to score. Morenco capped off the inning with his second RBI groundout of the night and a 5-0 lead for the Bells after five innings.

Kelowna had an immediate response, spurred by their offensive spark in Austen Butler, who collected his second double of the game, and third hit, to get the Falcons on the board. James Shimashita drove him in with a sacrifice fly and cut the deficit to 5-2 before the Bells tacked on another run to take a 6-2 advantage.

Tate Dearing shut the door from there for the Bells, delivering two innings of strong work while Kristian Scott showed well in his inning of relief for the Falcons, tossing a scoreless 8th frame but it would be Bellingham who prevailed by a 6-2 score in the second game of the season.
