Kelowna Falcons

Shut Down

KELOWNA, B.C. – The Kelowna Falcons couldn’t find many positives as they fell by a 12-1 score to the Victoria HarbourCats on Saturday night at Elks Stadium.

The bats stayed as hot as the weather for the HarbourCats, who drove in double digit runs for the second straight night as the Falcons dropped their seventh consecutive ballgame.

Victoria picked up where they left off on Friday as they loaded the bases in the 1st inning with one out but Ian Turner was resilient, getting out of the jam before the HarbourCats would strike for a run and take the lead an inning later in the 2nd.

After six home runs combined between the teams a night before, Harrison Spohn kept that going with a solo home run to left center field to give Victoria a 1-0 advantage but the Falcons had an answer in the home half as Jake Fischer brought home Matt Voelzke with his first RBI of the season and evened the ballgame at 1-1 after two full innings.

That would be as close as Kelowna would come on the night with an RBI single in the 3rd inning off the bat of Tyler Pettit to get the visitors ahead 2-1 before Victoria would bring five runs into the plate in the 3rd inning and take over the game, highlighted by a two-run double from Emilio Nogales to take a 7-1 lead into the middle innings.

The HarbourCats would add to their lead in the 6th inning, bringing seven batters to the plate with an RBI double from Nate Pecota as well as an RBI single off the bat of Spohn helping the ‘Cats to a 10-1 lead after six innings of play at Elks Stadium.

Tyler Pettit would earn his 3rd RBI of the game on a groundout in the 7th frame that would increase Victoria’s advantage to 11-1 as their series of offensive pressure continued. Another run plated in the 8th inning on the Falcons 4th error of the night and gave Victoria a 12-1 lead, the eventual final score.

The Falcons (1-7) conclude their three-game series against the HarbourCats (6-4) on Sunday evening for a Father’s Day matchup. Every Dad into the ballpark will get their admission for half the price. First pitch is slated for 6:05 PM with tickets available at the Falcons website as well as at the gate ahead of the opening pitch.
