Kelowna Falcons

Extra Inning Magic

The Falcons used an extra frame to snap their five game losing streak after a 3-1 comeback win on Monday over the Cowlitz Black Bears.

The veteran Matt Voelzke started on the mound for the first time this summer and was brilliant. He threw five strong innings giving up a run on one hit and struck out eight. The only run he allowed was in the bottom of the fifth inning, which turned out to be his final frame.

The offence was held in check for most of the game scattering just three hits. It wasn’t until the top of the eighth inning when the Falcons finally tied the game at one on a Marcus Guarin RBI single with two out to score Austen Butler.

The score stayed tied after the ninth inning so extra frames were needed.

The Falcons offence wasted little time scoring twice in the top of the 10th inning to take the lead for good. Brayden Merritt scored the eventual winning run on an error by the pitcher before Butler came across on a Cole Cummings ground out.

From there Kristian Scott closed the door out of the pen throwing a perfect bottom of the 10th inning to record the win.

The Falcons will finally return home to open a three game series with the Wenatchee Applesox on Tuesday night at 6:35pm. Tickets are available at the gate beginning at 5:30pm.
