Kelowna Falcons

Long Ball Victory

The Falcons exploded with the long ball on Friday night smashing four homeruns in an 8-4 victory over the Port Angeles Lefties.

In the bottom of the third it was the Lefties to strike first scoring an unearned run off starting pitcher Blake Tritch. The error on the Falcons defence was the first of five on the game.

The offence woke up in the fourth when James Shimashita singled home Brad Horton to tie the game at one. Then in the fifth Austen Butler hit his first homer of the season scoring Brayden Merritt ahead of him.

The Falcons struck again courtesy of the long ball in the seventh inning when Conagher Sands blasted his first of the season. Not to be outdone All-Star Cole Cummings then led off the eighth inning with his first homerun of the year. He’ll represent the Falcons in the homerun contest on Monday night before the West Coast League All-Star Game on Tuesday.

The nail in the coffin came in the top of the ninth when Norton jacked a three-run homer to put the game out of reach. It’s his second homer of the season scoring Merritt and Ben Smith ahead of him.

Tritch recorded his first win of the season throwing six innings, allowing just two hits and struck out six along the way.

Game two of the series with the Lefties is set for Saturday night at 6:35pm in Port Angeles. The Falcons will return home on Wednesday to host the Yakima Valley Pippins.
