Kelowna Falcons

Series Win

WENATCHEE, WA. – The Kelowna Falcons used a 4-for-5 effort from Marvcus Guarin while the bullpen came up clutch in a 6-3 victory over the Wenatchee AppleSox on Wednesday night from Paul Thomas Sr. Field.

Marcus Cain dealt four innings of one-run ball in relief while Guarin drove in four RBI’s and Richi Sede reached base four separate times as well, brining in a pair of runs as the Falcons picked up the series win over the AppleSox with the three-run victory.

The Falcons were quick to get on the offence in the opening frame, knocking back-to-back singles to begin the game before the Marvcus Guarin eventually came to the plate with two outs in the frame and ripped a three-run home run over the wall in right field for his first homer of the summer and was good for a 3-0 Falcons lead before starting pitcher Donovan Baldocchi even took the field.

The AppleSox loaded the bases in the 1st inning but Baldocchi survived the threat before Wenatchee found the scoreboard in the 2nd inning, narrowly missing a home run off the bat of Dalton Harum, who hit an RBI double off the wall in left field to make it a 3-1 game.

Wenatchee cut the lead to a single run in the 3rd inning courtesy of their first home run of the series coming from Blake Klassen as he drove a ball deep to right field and over the wall for a no doubter to cut the Falcons lead to 3-2 after three innings of play.

The night came to an end for Baldocchi after three innings and gave way to reliever Marcus Cain, who survived a big Wenatchee threat in the 4th frame. After two walks and a single, the AppleSox loaded the bases with one out before Richi Sede fielded a ball up the middle and started the turn of a huge double play to get the Falcons to the 5th with a 3-2 advantage.

That proved to be a big play as Kelowna added to their lead in the top of the 5th inning and, once again, it was Guarin coming through with a hit. He split the gap in left center field for an RBI double and his 4th RBI of the night gave the Falcons a two-run lead at 4-2 halfway through the game.

Wenatchee was quick to answer in the home half of the frame after a lead off walk was moved to second base on a passed ball. A double to the right center field gap by Kody Darcy cashed in the run and cut the Falcons lead to one once again at 4-3 heading into the late innings.

Sede showed his strength at the plate as well as he came up with two on in the 7th inning and added some insurance runs. He flipped a ball to left field that Johnny Sage had trouble playing as it fell to the left of him that cashed in a pair of runners with two outs as he reached base for the fourth time in the game and extended the Falcons lead to 6-3.

Marcus Cain saw his night come to an end on the mound after 4 solid innings of relief out of the bullpen, allowing one run on three hits with three walks before Wyatt Hummel dealt a scoreless 8th inning that kept Kelowna ahead 6-3.

Hummel came back in the 9th and got the first two batters he faced before back-to-back singles brought the tying run to the plate and Gabe Smith came on to try and find the final out. Smith was able to strike out the final batter of the game and helped the Falcons to a 6-3 victory.

The Falcons (8-14) look for the sweep in the final game of their three-game series against the AppleSox (9-14) on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 6:35 PM from Paul Thomas Sr. Field with the game broadcasted on mixlr.com/kelowna_falcons with the Voice of the Falcons, Trevor Miller.
