Kelowna Falcons

Two Lefty Gauchos

The Kelowna Falcons are excited to announce the addition of two lefthanded pitchers to the roster for the upcoming summer season. Both pitchers join the Falcons from the University of California-Santa Barbara.

Mike Gutierrez (pictured) is a lefthanded sophomore from Jurupa Valley California. He is currently 5-1 over the course of 10 appearances this spring and has an ERA of 3.25. In his 52.2 innings pitched he has struck out 51 batters, averaging over eight a game.

In his final year of high school in California, the 6’2, 210-pound Gutierrez fanned an incredible 91 batters over the course of 63 innings. He was named the Del Rio Pitcher of the Year and a First Team All-Star while his team won the Del Rio League championship.

Junior Trevor Beer also joins the Falcons and will give a new meaning to the “Beer Batter” at Elks Stadium this summer. In limited action so far this spring for the Gauchos he has struck out two batters in just one appearance. He is an intimidating looking lefty at 6’2 and 200-pounds from La Canada, California.

Both Gutierrez and Beer follow in the footsteps of several players from UC Santa Barbara to join the Falcons. Some of the recent players that have been in Kelowna and have been drafted by a Major League team, currently working through the Minors include JJ Muno (White Sox, INF), Tevin Mitchell (Marlins, INF), Shea Barry (Astros, RHP) and Cole Cummings (Padres, INF).

The Falcons open the season on June 3rd when they host the Victoria Harbourcats and admission will be free.
