Kelowna Falcons

12 Inning Marathon

Tuesday night the Kelowna Falcons dropped a heartbreaker in 12 innings, after a 5-4 decision to the Ridgefield Raptors at Elks Stadium.

The Raptors struck first with two runs in the top of the second, then two more in the third off Falcons’ starter Jasper Nelson. The home side broke through in the bottom of the third inning when second baseman Troy Baunsgard smacked a ball up the middle scoring Jeriah Lewis.

Neither team did much after that until the Falcons made some noise in the bottom half of the sixth scoring a pair of runs cutting the lead to just one. After loading the bases newcomer Nico Button drew a walk to push Makana Olaso across to score, then Jeter Ybarra hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Jaden Parsons.

In the bottom of the seventh the Falcons would tie the ballgame on a two-out RBI single by CJ Richmond scoring Parsons who doubled four pitchers earlier.

The game stayed tied after nine innings as the pitchers took over not allowing much. Then in the top of the 12th Leo Uelmen, a high school graduate was called upon to come out of the pen. He retired the first two batters he faced, before walking Travis Welker. He would promptly steal second, then a throwing error allowed him to advance to third. On the next pitch, Uelmen uncorked a wild pitch allowing Welker to score the game winning run.

The Falcons (2-2) will look to turn the tide on Wednesday night when they face the Raptors (3-1) in game two of the series at 6:35pm. Pick up your tickets HERE for the first ever Wine Wednesday at the ballpark presented by The View Winery.
