Kelowna Falcons

Road Trippin’

For the first time this season the Falcons have crossed the border and are getting set to open a six- game road swing in the US which begins tonight in Wenatchee.

The Falcons are coming off an offensive outpouring and a 12-5 victory over the Nanaimo NightOwls to salvage a game in that home series. Both Jake Steels and CJ Richmond pounded homers in that game and Konnor Palmeira was impressive in his debut.

With the end of the first half of the season nearing the Falcons (7-9) will need to get hot, trying to chase down the front running Bellingham Bells (16-5) who are 6.5 games up. The team that wins the division in the first half, receives an automatic berth in the postseason. The Falcons are currently 3-3 on the road this season.

On the other side the host Wenatchee Applesox (9-12) are just a half game back of the Falcons in the standings and have won two straight games. They don’t seem to have issues scoring runs this season and have scored nine or more times in seven games. They have the fourth highest team batting average at .271 and have scored 125 runs, also fourth most in the West Coast League. The Falcons meanwhile have scored 81 in five less games.

The Sox pitching staff however hasn’t enjoyed the same success. Their combined team ERA is over five compared to the Falcons’ 3.91. Tonight, Riley Sinclair gets the ball for the Sox with an ERA over 10.

The Falcons will send Nick Woodcock (1-0) to the bump tonight and he has been a bright spot on the pitching staff. This will be his third start and has struck out a team high 22 batters with his ERA of 1.44.

The Falcons return to Elks Stadium on Tuesday July 5th to welcome these same Applesox. Tickets can be reserved HERE.
