Kelowna Falcons

Streak Snapped

On a cool, wet evening in Nanaimo the Kelowna Falcons saw their two-game winning sneak snapped in 10 innings as the NightOwls scored the 4-3 victory.

With the Falcons down 1-0 heading into the sixth the offence finally scored. CJ Richmond climbed aboard with a one out double, then scored on a base hit by Jaden Sheppard. On the next pitch Sheppard scored courtesy of a double off the bat of Griffin Palfrey.

The lead didn’t last long as the NightOwls stormed right back scoring a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the inning off reliever Cameron Soliz. They would regain the lead 3-2 off Isaac Kim’s two-run homer.

In the seventh the Falcons would tie it at three. After loading the bases Troy McCain was hit by a pitch to bring home Cody Ranit who reached earlier in the inning on an error.
Both offences did nothing after that and extra innings were required. Palfrey came into the game to pitch the tenth and loaded the bases before walking in the winning run.

For the third straight game the Falcons recorded 11 hits, led by Sheppard who had four of them along with an RBI and a run scored. Troy Baunsgard was the only other player with a multi-hit game.

The Falcons (5-6) have a day-off on Thursday to return to Kelowna before opening a three-game series at Elks Stadium on Friday against the front running Kamloops NorthPaws (9-5). Following Friday night’s game the Falcons will light up the sky with a spectacular fireworks show. Then Saturday the club will honour the Westbank First Nation by wearing orange Every Child Matters jerseys. Sunday is Father’s Day, so bring dad to the ballpark for half priced tickets.
