Falcons fall on Firefighters Night

The Bellingham Bells earned the series win with a 4-1 victory over the Kelowna Falcons at Elks Stadium on Thursday.

The Bells pitching once again proved effective, holding the Falcons bats to just three total hits in the contest.

Starting pitcher Will Ambruester would earn the win for Bellingham, allowing just one run over five innings of work, while striking out three.

Meanwhile, Falcons’ starting pitcher Sasha Kamenjasevic took home the loss, allowing four runs with one strike out over 2 complete innings.

Pitcher Phillip Bryant would put in a strong effort in relief of Kamenjasevic, holding the Bells to just one hit and striking out six over four shut out frames.

Right fielder Kyle Korso counted the lone run for Kelowna, coming on a solo home run – his second of the year – in the bottom of the second.

The Bells would open the scoring in the top of the first, with Dean West scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of right fielder Coleman Schmidt.

Bellingham would increase their lead to 3-0 in the top of the second on RBI singles by West and third baseman Nate Kirkpatrick.

However, Kelowna would pull back within two on a solo home run by right fielder Kyle Corso.

But the Bells would add an insurance run in the top half of the third on a double by Yohan Dessereault to make it 4-1.

That score would hold for the remainder of the game as both team’s bullpens stood strong and the Bells would eventually take home the 4-1 win and the series victory.

The Falcons record now stands at 9-8 on the season.

They will travel south of the border this weekend for a three game set against the Port Angeles Lefties, beginning tomorrow night.

The Falcons celbrated Firefighters night at Elks Stadium during Thursday’s game, donating all ticket sales to the BC Burn Fund.
