Recap

A ninth inning rally for the Kelowna Falcons on Thursday afternoon secured a 9-7 victory and a series win in Victoria.

Early on it was a see-saw battle with the Falcons coming back to take the lead in the sixth, only to give it right back in the seventh.  Then down a run in their final at bats the Falcons capitalized on JT Williams getting hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.  Immediately after getting on, Trent Tinglestad smacked a double to centerfield scoring Williams and tying the game.  Two batters later Logan Steinberg hit a two-run homerun to ultimately give the Falcons the win.

It’s a big win for us,” says manager Bryan Donohue.  “At this point of the season we have to rack wins up like that.  I was really impressed with the way our pitchers came out, just didn’t allow too much.  There were a lot of chances where one big hit could have made things a lot tougher for us to come back from.   There were just some big outs from some guys that continue to work hard but for (Jake) Roes to come out and pitch the way he did, to limit them to not that much offensively and then for (Anthony) Garcia to come out after he pitched just a one hitter last night, they had already seen him before and to pitch to the contact he pitched to in that last inning, he pitched with confidence.”

Offensively the Falcons collected 11 hits, three from Tinglestad and two each from Chris Arpan, Kade Hall and Williams.  For Steinberg it was this third homer of the summer while Hall hit his first.

“You see a lot of guys on our offence right now that are stepping to the plate with a lot of confidence and we just got better as the night went on and that’s a big difference from last night.  I mean some guys just got some monstrous hits and that’s the biggest thing.  Its all about continuing to find a way to stay polished and I think that showed up today,” said Donohue post game.

The pitching staff had just enough to finish off the Harbourcats as Roes record the victory throwing 1.1 innings, giving up a run on three hits.

The win was the 22nd of the season for the playoff bound Falcons, who now return home for the final home stand of the summer.  They’ll face the Bellingham Bells and Walla Walla Sweets over the next six nights beginning Friday night at Elks Stadium.
