Falcons Visit Bend

Following their three game series in Bellingham, the Falcons continue their six game road trip with three in Bend, Oregon starting tonight.

The Falcons have lost six straight and have yet been able to put a complete game together.  In the last two games, the pitching staff was lights out, but the hitters had problems producing runs.  Earlier in the season it was reversed.

After seeing the pitching shutdown a very talented Bellingham offense in the last two games of the series, it appears they are back on track, lowering their staff ERA to 5.98 heading in to Bend.

Over the last two games, the staff has given up just two earned runs and scattered eight hits.

While the pitchers have seemingly found their groove, the hitters have fallen on hard times, hitting just .234 as a team.  The club has the least amount of runs scored (71) and second least hits (154), as well as last in doubles (22) and homeruns (3).

The Bend Elks (12-10) have won six straight and are the hottest team in the West Coast League.  They are coming off a series sweep over the Walla Walla Sweets at home in which they scored 47 runs, giving up only 18.

Traditionally the Elks have always been a team that can score runs and this year is no different.   They’ve scored the second most runs (120) and have collected the second most amount of hits (195). They’ve also connected on 10 homers and have played 22 games, the most in the WCL.

The Elks pitching staff have seen its ups and downs.  Their team ERA is 4.48, which is the middle of the WCL pack.  They’ve given up 116 runs, 190 hits and have struck out a league leading 184 strikeouts.

The probable starters for the Falcons are:

Monday – Kevin Flemer – 0-2, 18.00 ERA, 4IP, 5Ks, 7BB
Tuesday – Matthew Moriarty – 0-1. 5.58 ERA, 9.2IP, 6Ks, 10BB
Wednesday – Jeremy Alderman – 2-2, 4.78 ERA, 17IP, 12Ks, 13BB
