Pippins Punch Falcons

For the second straight night the Kelowna Falcons offense sputtered, falling 12-4 to the visiting Yakima Pippins.

Falcons starting pitcher Matt Moriarty, who suffered the loss, got into trouble in the fifth inning, allowing three runs on two hits.  Over 4.1 innings, Moriarty gave up six hits, walked two and struck out two.

Brett Solano didn’t have much luck against the Pippins either.  He lasted just 1.1 innings, allowing five runs on five hits and walked three.

Offensively the Falcons collected five hits, Nick Minteer recording two of them.  They scored their first run against the Pippins 15 innings in the seventh when Minteer scored on an error.

The Falcons scored three times in the ninth to hopefully give the players something to build on for Thursday’s series finale.

Brandon Grimsley collected a single in his final at bat in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to seven.

Thursday night the Falcons will look to salvage a game in this series when 2-1 Jeremy Alderman makes the start.

The game is also the Third Annual BC Fire Fighters Burn Fund charity night.  One fan has a chance to win a car, there will be bouncy castles for the kids, a police helicopter fly over and a seven minute fireworks display following the game.  Gates open at 5:30pm, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm.  All ticket sales will be donated to the BC Fire Fighters Burn Fund.  They can be picked up at the gate, or purchase them online HERE
