Kelowna Falcons

11 Hits Not Enough

The Falcons opened their final regular season series on Friday night and the party was spoiled by the Walla Walla Sweets, beating the Falcons 10-3.

Sweets starter Alex Fisher threw a masterful complete game.  He allowed just three runs, scattered 11 hits and struck out five recording his first win of the summer.

The Sweets offense was also as advertised.  Coming into the game, they led the league in runs scored and homeruns.  Friday night they scored 10 runs and blasted three homeruns.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Will Fox led off with a triple, then scored on Colton Waltner’s RBI single.

After that, the Sweets went to work, scoring a pair of runs in both the third and fifth innings off Falcons starter Joel Lamont.

The Falcon did manage to score single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to cut a Sweets lead in half.    In the sixth Fox scored on Ryan Degner’s ground out.  Then in the seventh Lucas Denney scored on Brock Chilton’s RBI sacrifice fly.

Any hope or thought of a comeback was silenced in the top of the ninth as the Sweets score four times off Fox, who made his summer debut on the mound.

Despite only scoring three times, the Falcons offense did collect 11 hits.   Waltner finished with three hits, Fox, Degner and Denney each had two.  The Sweets on the other hand recorded 15.

The Falcons (15-37) face the Sweets (26-26) again on Saturday night and the Falcons will be wearing speciality jerseys for the “Jersey Off Your Back” promotion.  The gates open at 5:30, first pitch at 6:35pm.
