Heartbreak In Extras

Despite scoring seven times in the first three innings, the Falcons fall 15-8 to the Wenatchee Applesox in 10 innings.

In the bottom of the first inning Ryo Shishido scored on a Ryan Degner fielder’s choice as the home side the lead.

After the Sox tied the game with a run in the top of the second inning off starter Sam Murphy the Falcons offense erupted for six runs in the bottom of the third.  Degner scored Kody Matthews with an RBI single, before Emilio Alcantar knocked in Brandon Graham with one of his own.

Two batters later, Will Fox brought home Alcantar and Lucas Denney with a one out single.  Then Anthony Gosline then smacked single to score Fox and Tommy Lane to give the Falcons a 7-1 lead.

The six run lead didn’t last long however, as the Sox came back with five runs over the next two innings to pull within one.

The Falcons stretched their lead as Alcantar scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth innings.  However the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead.

The Sox tied the game with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings off reliever Brett Solano.

With the game tied at eight, the teams needed one extra inning to declare a winner.  Unfortunately it was the Sox that found their bats again in the 10th as they scored seven times and claimed a 15-8 victory.

Alcantar and Gosline had a three hit night, while Denney and Graham each collected a pair.  Gosline, Fox and Degner all had two RBIs.

The Falcons and Sox will play the seasonal series finale on Thursday night at Elks Stadium at 6:35pm.  Josh Nuernberg will get the starter for the home side.
