Final Road Swing

Friday night the Falcons open their final road series of the season as they travel to Yakima Valley to battle the Pippins.

Thursday night the Falcons played in extra innings for the second consecutive night, but this time fall 4-3 at home to the Kitsap Bluejackets.

Ryan Degner continued his hot hitting, smacking a double and a single.  He has four hits in the last two games and is on a three game hitting streak.

This weekend the Falcons have an opportunity to play the spoiler role against the Pippins.  In just their first summer the Pippins have a division best 27-18 record and are currently on a four game winning streak.  They are three games up on the second place Wenatchee Applesox.  This will also mark the first time the Falcons have ever played a West Coast League game in Yakima Valley.

The Falcons are 1-5 against the Pippins this season.

The Pippins own the league’s third best batting average at .274 and have scored the second most runs with 276.  The Falcons on the other had have been scoring runs as of late but have the league’s second fewest with 214 and a .242 average.

On the mound the Pippins staff has been solid with a 3.44 ERA, striking out 331 and only allowing 156 earned runs.  The Falcons staff has collected a 5.77 ERA, fanning 314 and have allowed 241 earned runs.

Pippins outfielder Vince Fernandez has torched the Falcons, hitting .400 in six games, collecting three homeruns and 12 RBIs.

Joel Lamont (0-1) will get his first start of the summer on Friday night against Mitch Yada (0-0) making his second start.

The Falcons (15-30) return home on Tuesday to begin their final six game home stand of the summer against Wenatchee and Walla Walla.
