Kelowna Falcons

Falcons Drop Opener

The Kelowna Falcons did not get the start they were looking for to open up the West Coast League season, as they fell 9-2 to the Victoria Harbourcats Friday night in the provincial capital.

Jayse Bannister (Holy Names University) gave up three runs in the opening inning as he struggled with his command, walking four in the first frame. The Falcons pitcher would not be charged with an earned run in the inning after his defence also committed an error.

Bannister would exit after just 4 innings, as he walked six and gave up 3 hits. He was charged with 1 earned run.

The Harbourcats would jump all over reliever Jaramy Jacobs (Ohlone College), as they scored 3 times in the 5th inning on 3 hits. Jacobs would be pulled after recording just 1 out, and Kyle Rasmussen (Fresno Pacific University) would come on in relief.

Rasmussen surrendered 1 earned run in 1.2 IP of relief, as the Falcons trailed 9-0 after 6.

The offence would score runs in both the 7th and 8th innings, as Hunter Villanueva (Fresno Pacific University) scored on a wild pitch in the 7th, and Brandon Grimsley (Southeastern Oklahoma) drove in Ben Gamba (Holy Names University) in the 8th.

Gamba and Villanueva would both record a pair of hits on the night. Marcus Ethen (University of Nebraska-Omaha) and Joel Lamont (Okanagan College) would each throw a scoreless inning of relief.

The Falcons and Harbourcats will go again tomorrow night at Royal Athletic Park. First pitch is at 6:35, as Tyler Gillies (University of British Columbia) gets the ball.

NOTE: There will not be a Falcons broadcast this weekend, but all games will be broadcast at www.kelownafalcons.com starting on Tuesday June 9th for the Home Opener.
