Kelowna Falcons

Falcons Walk Off

The Kelowna Falcons blew a pair of leads, but got two lucky breaks to walk off in the 9th inning with an 8-7 win over Medford Friday.

Both teams would score in the 1st inning, as the Rogues took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single. In the bottom half, the Falcons got a run from Lane Lacrone when Ben Gamba extended his hit streak and cashed him in for his 8th RBI of the season.

Kelowna added a run in the 4th, before Medford scored four times in the top of the 6th off of Tyler Gillies. All runs were charged to him, as Gillies went 5.1 innings, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits.

The Falcons responded in the bottom half, scoring 4 times to retake the lead. The bases were loaded when Josh Egan bounced out, picking up an RBI. Right after that, Kirby McGuire bounced one over the mound that was tough to handle for the Rogues shortstop, allowing 2 runs to score. Andre Jackson drove in McGuire in the next at bat.

The Rogues scratched out a run in the 8th inning off of Curtis Taylor, then took advantage of a throwing error on what could have been the 3rd out to take a 7-6 lead.

Cue the oddity.

In the bottom of the 9th, Lane Lacrone was hit by a pitch, before advancing on a Gamba single that dropped in front of Stefan Panayiotou, who lost it in the lights.

The Falcons then executed a perfect double steal lead by an excellent jump by Lacrone.

After Hunter Villanueva struck out, Justin Flores lifted a fly ball to left, which was also lost in the lights by the Rogues defense, that allowed both runners to cross as they Falcons picked up their first walk off win of the season.

Taylor would be credited with the win for Kelowna, moving to 1-0 on the season with 2 saves.

Elias Bedolla goes to the mound for Kelowna on Saturday night in Game 2. He is 1-0 after a 6 inning victory in Victoria.
