Pippins Walk it Off

The Kelowna Falcons blew a 4-run lead, tied it up, then lost in the 10th inning Saturday night in Yakima Valley, falling 7-6 to the Pippins and snapping their 5 game winning streak.

The Falcons got on the board in the 2nd inning when Max Carter scored Justin Flores from 2nd base with a single up the middle.

Kelowna tacked on a pair in the 4th inning thanks to back to back doubles and later a SAC Fly to open up a 3-0 lead. Ben Gamba extended his hit streak to 10 games, and Flores scored him just one batter later. After a great Sacrifice from Hunter Villanueva, Joey Crunkilton hit a Sac Fly to centerfield to score Flores.

The Falcons would make it 4-0 in the 7th inning when Lane Lacrone singled up the middle to score Carter.

Nat Hamby was strong on the hill for Kelowna, as he allowed just 1 hit in 6 innings of work, shutting down the Pippins offence. He recorded 1 strikeout on the night, but the hitter reached base on a wild third strike. 12 of 18 outs were on the ground.

The Pippins responded in the 7th inning against a wild Falcons bullpen, scoring 5 times on just 2 hits. The Falcons issued 6 walks in the frame, using 3 different relievers.

The Falcons would bounce back in the 8th inning to tie up the game at 5 thanks to Crunkilton, who pasted a double down the left field line. Gamba slid in just ahead of the throw, scoring from 1st base.

Yakima Valley would load the bases in the 9th inning with 1 out, but a great pitch from Alex Webb foiled a squeeze attempt, then got the final out of the inning.

Gamba would lead off the 10th inning with a triple, and Villanueva poked one through the right side to score him.

The Pippins once again would respond thanks to an RBI triple from Branson Trube, tying the game at 6.

Tyler Friis would be the hero for Yakima Valley, as his bloop single over 2nd base allowed Trube to score and the Pippins walk off with the victory.
