Kelowna Falcons

Sox Rally Late

The Wenatchee AppleSox scored 3 times in the 8th inning to take the middle game against the Kelowna Falcons by a 6-3 score Tuesday in Wenatchee.

The Falcons once again got on the board first, this time in the 3rd inning when Hunter Villanueva ripped a ball past the right ear of Wenatchee starter Gage Burland into centerfield to score Grant Meylan.

Kelowna added 2 more runs in the top of the 5th as they loaded the bases with nobody out. Wade Gulden bounced into a double play scoring one, then Joey Crunkilton cashed in another with a single to right field.

Wenatchee responded with 1 of their own in the bottom half, cutting the lead to 3-1.

In the 7th, with Nat Hamby still on the mound for the Falcons, Daniel Amaral lined a pitch to the right-centerfield gap to score Drew Helmstadter, and the relay throw to 3rd to get Amaral went into the AppleSox dugout, allowing Wenatchee to tie the game at 3.

The AppleSox would draw a leadoff walk and get a double to begin the 8th inning off of Max Carter, before Andre Jackson allowed a pair of singles for Wenatchee to go up 5-3. Another run would score on a bases loaded walk.

The Falcons were unable to get anything going in the 9th, as a leadoff walk was erased immediately with a double play.

Hamby was strong for the Falcons, going 7 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits. He had held the Sox hitless through 4.2 innings.

Kelowna will play their 8th rubber match of the season as they look for their 9th straight series win on Wednesday night. Joel Lamont from Okanagan College will be on the mound for the Falcons.
