Kelowna Falcons

FREE Home Opener

For the first time since the 2011 season the Falcons will play the Bellingham Bells to open up a fresh campaign.

The Falcons are coming off their first ever Eastern Division pennant, beating the Bells to secure it last season.

New manager Bryan Donahue is new to the West Coast League but has had a pretty good mentor in Billy Clontz, who led the Falcons to their best ever finish last year.  Clontz helped Donahue build this team and they will hit.

Collectively this new roster had an average of .281 with 56 homeruns and 357 runs batted in during their school seasons.

The offence could be similar to last year for the Falcons, who hit .297 with 27 homers and 542 hits.  If the offence is indeed similar fans will be treated to a fun and exciting season at Elks Stadium.

Historically the Falcons have not started the summer on the right foot.   In the last six “season opening” games the Falcons have won just once.  That win however was against the Bells in 2010.

Last season the Falcons had success against the Bells winning four of the six meetings and outscored them 35-30.

Right-handed Leif Strom will get the ball on the bump for the Falcons after a tremendous freshman season at Pierce Community College.  He was a perfect 8-0 with a 2.18 ERA in 11 starts in the NWAC Conference.  The 6’6, 215 pounder fanned 57 batters in 70 innings of work.  During one stretch in the spring he won five straight starts.

Admission to the home opener is FREE courtesy of TELUS.  The gates will open at 5:30pm, the first pitch set for 6:35pm and the weather looks spectacular.  The whole family is welcome as the adults can watch the game while the kids will enjoy the bouncy castles and hotdogs!
