Falcons Drop Finale

It was a rough outing for the Falcons on Saturday night. The series finale against the Victoria HarbourCats wasn’t exactly a close affair, ending with a 10-4 final score. It was the fourth game played in three nights, and the third Falcons loss of the series, bringing their season record to an even 12-12.

The rout started in the bottom of the third inning when the ‘cats put up four runs. They’d also add 5 runs in the sixth inning, deflating the Falcons and cruising to the victory. Starter Leif Strom was on the hook for the loss, giving up five runs and 4 walks in just three innings. The usually sturdy Strom’s rough outing forced the Falcons into several pitching changes, draining the bullpen and giving the HarbourCats the upper hand.

The bats couldn’t seem to get going all evening, with the Falcons mustering up 7 hits, but stranding several runners on base. The only Falcon to produce more than a single hit was JT Williams, who had two on the night.

The Falcons got their scoring started in the top of the third, with Bowen Ogata scoring on a HarbourCats throwing error. Tevin Mitchell got himself an RBI shortly after via sacrifice, scoring JT Williams.

The offense failed to score again until the ninth inning, when they loaded the bases for Bowen Ogata, who sent two runners (Vaughn Shapen and Joseph Shepher) across home plate with a single.

The Falcons will be back on the road Sunday for a three-game series against the Wenatchee Applesox, who hold a 8-15 record on the year.
