Falcons Even Up Series

The Kelowna Falcons are certainly a resilient bunch. One night after getting blown out by the Wenatchee AppleSox, the Falcons were able to bounce back and secure a much-needed 6-5 win. Jake Simmons, the righty out of Walla Walla Community College, went seven strong innings, striking out three along the way. He collected the win on the night, which pushes his record to 4-1.

The birds came out firing on all cylinders, putting up three runs in the first courtesy of shortstop Brad Antchak, second baseman Lane Lacrone and right fielder AJ Sawyer. It was a great starts for the Falcons, whose offense has been in a bit of a slump the last handful of games. The birds added to their lead courtesy of a two run jack from AJ Sawyer.

Sawyer had a fantastic night at the plate, racking up two runs and three hits, with one of those being a home run. He also collected three RBI’s.

The Falcons added another run in the fifth, which would prove to be extremely key. The AppleSox started a late rally, adding a pair in the seventh and three in the eighth to make the contest a one run game.

The Falcons had one trick up their sleeves. It was a save opportunity, which means the clutch closer Jared Morton was on the mound. The righty came in and struck out the first two batters he faced. Shane Martinez was the last hope for an AppleSox comeback, but the Falcons would not be denied.

Morton earned his fifth save of the season, and continues to add to his growing reputation as one of the Falcons most reliable players. He simply doesn’t wilt under pressure.

Daniel Nist collected an RBI in the win as well and continues to lead the team with 11. The Falcons hitting was also on point tonight, as they smacked five doubles and three triples on the night. 13 hits total is definitely a sign of good things to come for the birds.

The Falcons took game number two of the series, with the rubber match being played Tuesday, July 5th. The Falcons will be going for the series win before starting the second half of the season back home against the Gresham GreyWolves.
