Kelowna Falcons

Wolves at the Door

It’s time for a clean slate. After closing out the first half of the season with a 13-14 record, the Falcons now have an opportunity to start over and make a push for playoffs.

The West Coast League’s playoff format sends the winners of the first and second halves of the season through to the playoffs, meaning that the Falcons’ sub-.500 record thus far isn’t necessarily stopping them from making the post-season.

The second half of the WCL season starts up on Wednesday with a three game series against the Gresham GreyWolves. The Falcons are returning home after a seven game road trip against the Victoria HarbourCats and Wenatchee AppleSox that saw them win just two games.

The GreyWolves are coming into town after losing their last series two games to one. These two clubs met once in the first half of the season, with Gresham taking two of three games at their home stadium. Redemption is the goal for the birds, who have had some struggles lately, and desperately need a spark.

The series at Elks Stadium is the perfect second half jumping-off point for a team that has shown flashes of excellence, but has failed to capitalize. With each and every game now holding so much weight, the Falcons need to find their spark and become the tem that flashed through in the first half.

As far as matchups go, the GreyWolves represent an excellent test. On paper, the birds and wolves are as evenly matched as they come in several offensive and pitching categories.

Here’s how the two clubs stack up head-to-head:
