Kelowna Falcons

Nail-biting Win

The Falcons won an absolutely thrilling game over the Port Angeles Lefties by a score of 8-7. It was a back and forth affair that saw the lead change hands multiple times over the course of the nine-inning game.

The Falcons were buoyed by a bevy of hits, with multiple batters recording two including Chris Arpan, Taylor Wright and new Falcon right fielder Bryce Steckler. Single hits were recorded by Alex McGarry, Matt Voelzke, Davis Todosichuk and catcher Chris Diehl.

Speaking of Wright, the Canadian-born shortstop was one of the heroes of the night for the Falcons as he belted the go-ahead solo home run over the right-field fence in the top if the eighth inning.

Three pitchers combined to give the Falcons the win. Cal Hehnke started the ball game and was excellent, despite playing with a nasty blister developing on his finger. He was later relieved by Connor Runnalls, a Canadian who is out of Edmonds Community College. The righty did a fantastic job controlling the Lefties during his innings.

Brayden Price, the big righty out of West Texas A&M came on for the end of the game and was instrumental in keeping the Falcons one-run lead.

Head coach Bryan Donohue was pleased with his club but noted that they still have some work to do in order to become a complete team. He said, “We need to do a better job of eliminating those crooked numbers and that’s kinda been our thing now for the past three days.”

The Falcons bench boss went on to say, “I really like the fact that we were down two or three times in this game and we just kept on competing and finding ways to get on base. We have a lot of hitters that strung together some very competitive at-bats.”

With the win, the Falcons are 2-2. They play the Lefties for the fourth time in a row, with the next game slated for 6:35 pm Tuesday night.
