Falcons Win Series

The Kelowna Falcons (3-2) continued their winning ways by defeating the Port Angeles Lefties 8-7. With the win, the Falcons now own a winning record and will go for the sweep tomorrow night at Civic Field.

The team out of Kelowna was paced to their eight runs by nine hits. Infielders Jake Malone, Taylor Wright and Alex McGarry all had multi-hit games, with McGarry and Chris Arpan picking up a pair of RBI in the win.

The Falcons picked up a new right-handed pitcher and he was spectacular on the mound. Hunter Bruno, a freshman righty out of Mt. Hood, was amazing in his first Falcons start. He pitched eight complete innings, giving up six hits and one earned run while striking out four.

Head Coach Bryan Donohue was especially impressed with his starter saying, “It was an amazing game for Bruno. He led the way with solid pitching and we were able to jump ahead with a bunch of runs. He hadn’t pitched in a couple weeks either, which made it that much more impressive.”

Kelowna would find themselves up 8-1 at the bottom of the ninth. That’s when the Lefties began to rally and were able to tack on an astounding six runs to make the game 8-7. Chase Wiger, a new Falcons pitcher, had a rough outing, which led to him getting pulled without recording an out.

Bo Meiklejohn, the two-way player out of Okanagan College, came into the ball game and with the help of the Falcons defense, he was able to get the club out of trouble, recording the save in the process.

It was a wild game that saw Kelowna with a second straight eight runs, making it sixteen over the last two games. The Falcons will look for the sweep and to win the season series starting tomorrow at 6:35 pm.
