Kelowna Falcons

Opening Day

It’s opening day at Elks Stadium as the Falcons open the 2017 season against the newly formed Port Angeles Lefties.

These two clubs will get very familiar with each other in the next week after playing a home and home over the next six nights with the first three in Kelowna this weekend.

Tonight the Falcons will look to a Canadian to open the season with a strike.  Lefthander Niall Windeler (pictured) who plays for the UBC Thunderbirds has been named the opening day starter by Manager Bryan Donohue.  During the spring with the T-Birds the Toronto native fanned 57 batters and had a 2.94 ERA.

On Saturday the Falcons will flip the Lefties’ hitters around as right hander James Brooks from Concordia University in Oregon takes to the bump.  During the regular season the Vancouver Washington native struck out 56 batters and had five saves.

In the series finale on Sunday the Falcons will hand the ball to righty Anthony Garcia from Lower Columbia College.   The Oregon native was 2-0 this past spring with three saves and a 2.45 ERA and 16 strikeouts.

Tonight’s game is FREE admission courtesy of TELUS as the gates open at 5:30 and Windeler’s opening pitch set for 6:35pm.   Saturday night’s game is also set for 6:35pm, while Sunday’s tilt will start at 6:05pm.
