Falcons Lose Series

The Kelowna Falcons lost game two of the series to the Wenatchee AppleSox by a score of 7-4 in 11 innings. Kelowna scored one run in the third and didn’t score again until the eighth where they rallied to tie the game with a three-spot.

Jared Gray made his second start for Kelowna and was fantastic. He pitched seven complete innings and allowed eight hits and four runs with only two of those being earned. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out seven along the way.

Bryan Donohue, Falcons head coach, was very impressed with the start. He said, “He was good. He threw seven innings and gave up two earned runs. Gray was all over the strike zone and pitched very efficiently.”

Team defense was once again an issue and Donohue singled it out. He said, “We gave up two runs in the fifth that in my opinion, should never have happened. We didn’t take care of the baseball to close out the inning and they scored two on us.”

The story of the game was easy to pinpoint for Donohue. He said, “We left too many guys on base. We left the bases loaded twice and a runner on third a couple of times. All we needed was a base hit. I wasn’t happy with the at-bats we put together early with runners in scoring position.”

He continued on to say, “We have a long break coming up. We competed, but at some point we need to start winning some baseball games. You can sit there and talk about the little moral victories but at the end of the day, wins are wins and losses are losses. We need to get on the winning side of things.”

Kelowna looks to avoid the home sweep tomorrow at 6:05 pm. Sam Menegat (2-0) makes his third start of the summer.
