Heartbreaker Sunday

The Kelowna Falcons (16-10) lost a heartbreaker to the Yakima Valley Pippins (13-12) by a score of 14-13. It was a back and forth affair that saw the Falcons get walked off in the bottom of the ninth.

The game saw an astounding 27 runs cross the plate over the full nine innings. Kelowna opened the scoring back in the first by putting up four runs. The Pippins answered with one of their own to make it a three-run game.

Yakima would then respond later in the game with two in the fourth, one in the fifth and a five-spot in the sixth. Heading into the seventh, the Falcons were behind by a score of 9-5.

Kelowna wasn’t done through and rallied for three in the seventh, three in the eighth and two in the ninth. The Pippins then strung some quality at-bats together and were able to walk the Falcons off in the bottom of the ninth with a four spot.

The best performer for the Falcons was Matt Bottcher, who had four hits and four RBI on the night. It was the first time this season that the Falcons have lost to the Pippins. Falcons hold the season series by a 4-1 count.

Kelowna is still trying to secure their playoff berth and a win tomorrow night is imperative to their cause. The rubber match of the series goes tomorrow at 7:05 pm. Cal Hehnke will be on the mound for Kelowna as they look to win the series.
