Kelowna Falcons

Welcome Back

A pair of important pieces of the Kelowna Falcons North Division championship in 2018 will return to the club for the summer of 2019 with Matt Voelzke and Dan Pruitt returning to the Okanagan.

The duo of versatile infielders and pitchers are a welcome addition to the 2019 version of the Falcons with Voelzke returning to Kelowna for the third straight summer. The Lake Oswego, Oregon native led the George Fox University Bruins in at-bats throughout their 2019 campaign. Voelzke finished the season with 10 doubles, two triples, five homeruns and 26 runs batted in in 160 at-bats, possessing a .313 batting average. Voelzke also made 17 appearances on the mound, hurling 29.1 innings and finished third on the team with 40 strikeouts, amassing a 3.07 earned run average with a 2-2 record and seven saves.

Entering his third season with the Falcons, Voelzke played a big role with the bat and his arm last season, recording the final out for Kelowna in Bellingham to capture the North Division championship over the Bells. The 6’3”, 180-pounder was second in at-bats for Kelowna a season ago, batting .296 with seven doubles, three homers and 29 RBI’s in 162 plate appearances. His 48 hits on the season ranked third on the team behind Taylor Wright and Trent Tingelstad.

The 2019 collegiate season was good to infielder/pitcher Dan Pruitt as well as he dominated at Western Oklahoma State in NCAA Division II action. Pruitt led the Pioneers in homeruns with 20 and RBI’s with 76 over 157 at-bats, where he compiled an impressive .522 batting average. Those numbers were good enough to lead all of Division II baseball after he showed well in his first season with the Falcons in 2018.

The Oklahoma City native hit .331 with seven homers and 26 RBI’s with the Falcons, last year in which he was honoured with an All-Star selection and went 1-for-4 in the All-Star Game in Port Angeles. Pruitt was a pivotal bat in the postseason as well, hammering two homeruns and five RBI’s in the Falcons five-game run to the West Coast League Final.

Voelzke, Pruitt and the remainder of the Falcons will open their 2019 season on the road against the Bellingham Bells beginning on Tuesday, June 4th before coming back to Kelowna for their home-opening series to host the newest team in the WCL, the Ridgefield Raptors for a three-game series beginning on Friday, June 7th.
