Falling Short

KELOWNA, B.C. – The Kelowna Falcons saw 6th inning home runs from Dan Pruitt and Josh Lewis but fell to the Ridgefield Raptors by a 5-4 score on Saturday night at Elks Stadium.
Just as they did a night ago, the Raptors got on the board early and took a lead in the top half of the 1st inning. With two runners on and two outs, Grayson Sterling was able to left a ball to the wall in left field to cash a pair of runs and give Ridgefield a 2-0 lead after the opening inning.
The visitors extended their lead in the 3rd inning courtesy of a wild pitch and a base knock. Michael Hicks was able to score on a wild pitch that knocked off the catcher Jake Fischer and went to the backstop before Jack Bauer delivered an RBI single into left field that pushed the Raptors ahead by a 4-0 score.
Kelowna tried to press with a push of their own, loading the bases in the 3rd inning but Brandon Hupe couldn’t drive a run home, lining out to third to conclude the inning.
James Bradwell started for the Falcons and battled through a bit of a rocky start to throw 3.2 innings, finishing with four runs allowed on five hits with four strikeouts and four walks before giving way to Mount Hood Community College lefty Ian Turner.
Ridgefield extended their lead to 5-0 in the 6th inning as they loaded the bases for the fourth time in six innings and collect a sacrifice fly to give Ridgefield a five-run lead before the Falcons bats came alive in the home half of the 6th inning.
2018 WCL All-Star Dan Pruitt showed off his powerful bat with a solo home run to left center field for his first homer of the season and getting Kelowna on the board before the power continued later in the frame courtesy of second baseman Josh Lewis.
The Roff, Oklahoma native sent a deep fly ball over the wall in right field for a three-run homer and his first home run of the season cut the Raptors lead to just a run at 5-4 heading into the late stages of ballgame.
The Raptors relief pitching did a superb job of closing the door as Michael Spellacy and Joey Martin combined to keep the lead in tact for the visitors with Ian Turner holding Ridgefield’s offence to nothing coming across in his five innings of work for Kelowna but the Falcons would fall on home soil for the second straight night.
The Falcons (1-4) will conclude their three-game series against the Ridgefield Raptors (3-2) on Sunday night at Elks Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:05 PM with tickets available for purchase at KelownaFalcons.com as well as at the gate ahead of the opening pitch of the ballgame.
